PDF: Evaluation of Industry Canada's Contribution to Genome Canada

Genome Canada is a not-for-profit organization, created and incorporated in 2000 under the Canada Corporations Act with a mandate to develop and implement a national strategy in genomics research for the benefit of all Canadians. Genome Canada seeks to deliver on this mandate by investing in large-scale genomics research initiatives in sectors of strategic and economic importance to Canada (i.e., health, agriculture, environment, forestry, fisheries, energy and mining), aiming to strengthen genomics research and technical capacity in Canada, and foster multi-sectorial partnerships nationally and globally. Genome Canada also works to ensure that genomics research efforts consider underlying ethical, environmental, economic, legal or social aspects (GE3LS). As of May 31, 2014, Genome Canada has received almost $1 billion in payments from Industry Canada and has raised over $1.3 billion from co-funding partners (e.g., provincial governments and agencies, international non-governmental organizations and research institutes).
