1.4 Banner
Banners are listed in ORA for a group of establishments that share common ownership or are part of a franchise or chain of companies (e.g. Petro Canada, 7-Eleven, Sobeys, Rona, etc.).
Second banner, same establishment ownership
Where an establishment operates at a location under more than one banner (e.g. a Shell gas station also has a Superior propane dispenser), enter the main banner (i.e. Shell) in ORA.
Second banner, separate establishment ownership
Where two establishments that are separate legal entities operate at the same location (i.e. they each use measuring devices in trade at the same location), enter both establishments in ORA. For example, an Esso gas station uses gas dispensers, but has an agreement whereby a separate legal entity operates a Superior propane dispenser from the same location. The business operating the gas station under the Esso banner and the one operating the propane dispenser under the Superior banner would be entered in ORA as separate establishments.
Updating the banner, no change of establishment ownership
The banner of an establishment can change without there being any changes to the ownership of the establishment. An establishment owner may change from one franchise to another or drop the franchise name altogether. If the legal name does not change, the Banner field can be updated without providing a comment to the ORA support desk. However, if there is a legal name change and a banner change, refer to section 1.2 for more details.
New banner needed
If an establishment or chain has at least five locations and can’t be found in the list of banners, send a general message in ORA or an email to the ORA support desk at ORA-ADEL@ised-isde.gc.ca to request that the banner table be updated.
