Inaugural meeting of the Council of Expert Advisors – Summary

March 7-8, 2023

On March 7 and 8, 2023, the Council of Expert Advisors (CEA) convened its first hybrid meeting, with the in-person portion taking place in Ottawa, Ontario. The objective of the first meeting was to provide to CEA members with a systematic and comprehensive overview of the Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy (BLSS), including the significant steps taken to date by the Government of Canada to implement the BLSS. Specifically, the CEA reviewed all of the actions taken to date under the BLSS's five pillars, including the investments made to date across the ecosystem and next steps. The CEA provided initial guidance and advice to the Government of Canada to improve implementation efforts and inform the forward workplan.

The CEA was established to advise the Government of Canada over the long-term as its foremost independent advisory group for biomanufacturing and life sciences. The CEA has diverse membership in biomanufacturing and pharmaceuticals, venture capital, public health, surveillance, epidemiology, health sector regulation, among other relevant and important areas.
