CIPO ends Global Patent Prosecution Highway partnership with the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property

As of , in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) will no longer accelerate examination under the provisions of the Global Patent Prosecution Highway (GPPH) when such requests are based on work performed by the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) as the Office of Earlier Examination. In addition, for pending cases in which CIPO has previously accelerated examination under the GPPH based on work performed by Rospatent, those applications will no longer receive accelerated examination at CIPO under the provisions of the GPPH.

CIPO has advised the Japan Patent Office, which serves as the Secretariat for the GPPH, of this decision.

Please contact CIPO’s PPH coordinator if you have any questions.
