IP Awareness and Education yearly wrap-up

You might know the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) as the organization that administers intellectual property (IP) rights in Canada, but did you know that CIPO also has an IP awareness and education (IP A&E) team that educates Canadian businesses, entrepreneurs, creators and innovators about IP?

Digital tools and resources

Since its launch in 2017, CIPO's IP A&E team has developed more than 140 IP tools and resources to help Canadian businesses and entrepreneurs unlock the value of their IP. In the last year, we expanded our offerings by adding:

Our Education, tools, and resources section receives more than 370 visitors daily. We are happy you are one of them!

In addition to offering online IP tools and resources, we also regularly deliver IP presentations on various IP topics to the general public in collaboration with our partners. Last year, we delivered 167 IP presentations to more than 2,700 participants, virtually and in person, with other federal and provincial government departments, incubators and accelerators, IP professionals, academia, business associations and more.

All are welcome to attend our presentations. Please visit CIPO's calendar of events to see what's coming up next!

Connecting key partners in the IP ecosystem

Outside of CIPO, there are great resources and programs about IP available to Canadian businesses and we are thrilled to work with a range of organizations to build a stronger IP education platform in Canada. In 2023, we collaborated with 148 organizations across the country who share the same vision. As a result, we have developed a strong pulse on IP education and services within the federal government and we were thrilled to launch the IP Village collaborative initiative.

Thanks to the IP Village, CIPO has been able to continue building on the 5 hours of IP education already available through recorded webinars called IP Talks. In this year's series, called IP Insights, we give you 4 hours of insights into how companies in the data and computing, consumer products, medical technologies and clean technologies sectors have successfully used IP.

Did you know that our IP A&E team includes IP advisors (IPAs) who can help you understand IP and connect you with the supports you need to advance in your IP journey? Contact one today!  If you're ready to have that first conversation with us, fill out the meeting form to speak with your regional IPA! In 2023, our IPAs met with 452 entrepreneurs, innovators, pre-startups and growing businesses across Canada to answer their IP questions.

A great team effort

It's a really exciting time to work with IP in Canada! 2023 has been packed with initiatives, offers and results for businesses seeking much-needed help throughout their IP journey. It's an honour and a pleasure to work with our partners on delivering these results and we would like to recognize some of them, including the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, the College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents, the Business Development Bank of Canada, the Trade Commissioner Service, the National Research Council's Industrial Research Assistance Program, Innovation, Science and Economic Development's ElevateIP program and all its recipients, Corporations Canada, the Innovation Asset Collective and Intellectual Property Ontario, to name only a few.

Here's to another successful year for CIPO's IP A&E team!
