Join the legacy of Black Canadian inventors!

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO)'s 2023–2028 Business Strategy identifies a need to increase awareness, knowledge and the effective use of intellectual property (IP) among underrepresented groups, including Black entrepreneurs.

To contribute to this goal, we are looking for Black owners of IP (e.g. patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs) to share their success stories as part of our national Black History Month campaign! CIPO is looking to centre Black voices and experiences as we develop a range of educational tools and resources to support entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses.

You may be selected to be either:

  • a feature profile on our social media platforms and digital toolkit
  • a guest speaker on a department discussion panel with Black entrepreneurs or a guest on the Canadian IP Voices podcast
  • a participant in future initiatives highlighting Black innovators

We will be accepting applications throughout 2024. If you are interested in participating, please email Please include your full name, a brief biography of your professional career, a description of the IP you own and the country in which it has been granted, a photo and your contact information.

We thank you for your collaboration in this exciting initiative to promote the diversity of Canadian inventors and innovators!
