Next Generation Patents (NGP)
An initiative by CIPO to modernize its client-facing and internal patent IT systems.
What we're building and... beyond
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is developing Next Generation Patents (NGP), a digital transformation initiative of our patent IT systems. This is part of a key priority for CIPO to improve its services and processes through operational excellence and a modern client service experience.
To ensure a smooth transition, CIPO is taking a phased approach to its deployment strategy, making functionalities available in a progressive manner.
New! We are in the testing phase for MyCIPO Patents and expect to launch the portal this spring.
One improvement under NGP is a new modern and centralized portal. Visit MyCIPO Patents – What to expect to learn about key features and important changes or watch our video tutorial to get an overview of the portal. Keep an eye out for new webinars and video tutorials in the coming months!
Your feedback matters
Building a better online portal is an ongoing effort and your feedback will help us create a better client experience. If you have any comments or concerns, please send them via the MyCIPO Patents feedback form.
Since 2020, CIPO clients have provided valuable feedback on the NGP initiative through various activities, including:
- user experience
- user research studies
- input on the e-grant process
- co-design as well as usability and user acceptance testing of our National Entry Request online solution
- engagement and feedback sessions on the MyCIPO Patents portal
