Madrid eFiling – Access to Test Environment

General information

In collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is happy to announce that a test environment for Madrid eFiling is now available. This resource provides the opportunity to become familiar with the Madrid eFiling service ahead of Canada's accession to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks (Madrid Protocol) on June 17, 2019.

Please be advised that all applications for international registration (AIR) created in the Madrid eFiling test environment are unofficial and strictly limited to testing or training purposes. This environment will continue to be available after the coming into force of the Madrid Protocol in Canada. Note that the Madrid efiling system is subject to change and may be updated from time to time.

Using the Madrid eFiling test environment

Access to the Madrid eFiling test environment requires a WIPO account. Users that do not already have a WIPO account are encouraged to consult the WIPO Account Help guide for instructions on how to create one.

Information on the Madrid eFiling system, including a general user guide, is available on the WIPO Website. A Madrid eFiling user guide specifically targeted to Canadian users is currently being finalized by CIPO and will be available shortly.

Access the Madrid eFiling test environment

If this link is added to “Favorites”, please note that WIPO is changing the web address for the test environment on May 21, 2019 and this web page will be amended accordingly.

Since this is a test environment, some application numbers may work better than others when uploading them into the Madrid eFiling test environment. It is important to note however that the goods or services must be grouped according to the classes of the Nice classification for the upload of a basic application or registration to be successful.

To simplify use of the Madrid eFiling test environment, mock payment can be made by way of a WIPO current account using the following account information:

  • Username: irpi
  • Password: irpi

Please note that although users will be operating within a test environment, CIPO will receive all test AIRs that are submitted to the office. Once these are submitted within the test environment, users will have limited access to them.
