Dear stakeholders,
As the New Year begins, we would like to take this opportunity to update you on the Board's work. The Board continues to engage with Canadians, to highlight the importance of space, and Board Members have been participating in various events across the country.
More specifically, since our last update, Members of the Board have participated in the following events:
- University of Victoria (UVIC) – Afzal Suleman, member of the Space Advisory Board welcomed former Canadian Astronaut Bjarni Tryggvason at UVIC on January 19, 2018 to discuss his experience as Astronaut and Test Pilot with more than 100 students.
- The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal Board of Trade – The Space Advisory Board Chair attended a Montreal Board of Trade event on January 22, 2018 where Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, addressed the Chamber of Commerce on the Innovation and Skills Plan and economic development of Montreal.
- Order of Canada – William MacDonald (Mac) Evans, member of the Space Advisory Board received the Order of Canada from the Governor General of Canada, her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette on January 24, 2018, for his sustained leadership of Canada's space program as President of the Canadian Space Agency.
The Board continues to examine how space technologies and innovations enhance science excellence, inspire future generations into STEM and support other sectors, as all these areas were highlighted to the Board during our Spring 2017 consultation with Canadians.
We are looking forward to continued engagement with the public on Canada's future in space and welcome input through contact with members of the Board or email ic.sab-cce.ic@canada.ca
Best regards,
