Space Advisory Board update

Dear stakeholders,

As this year comes to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you happy holidays. 2017 has certainly been busy for the Space Advisory Board and an exciting time for the space sector. Since the Board was renewed earlier this year, we have consulted with stakeholders, released our report: Consultations on Canada’s Future in Space: What we Heard, and participated in various space-related events across the country.

More specifically, since we last updated many of you, the Board has participated in following space-related events:

  • Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC) 2017 Summit—Board Members supported the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development at the Leadership Luncheon where he participated in a Fireside Chat with Jim Quick, President and CEO of the AIAC.
  • Canadian Space Commerce Association (CSCA) Space Policy Symposium—Board Members participated in an interactive session where questions were answered on topics including youth engagement, public awareness, scientific opportunities, academic activities, etc.
  • Canadian Space Society (CSS) Summit 2017—Board members participated on various panels on topics including start-ups, education and outreach, space commerce, etc. Members also provided keynote speeches and closed the Summit with an Arm Chair Session alongside the AIAC.
  • Canadian Space Agency (CSA) Space, Health and Innovation Forum—Board members participated as a moderator for the panel on Health Risks of Spaceflight. Members also supported Astronaut David Saint-Jacques in his announcement of the two new Canadian health experiments that will take place during his mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

The events that the Board has had the opportunity to attend throughout the year have brought together a broad cross-section of stakeholders which continue to show how space is a highly innovative sector, and who share a deep conviction in the value of space activities to Canada.

In 2018, we are looking forward to continued engagement with stakeholders, to highlight the importance of space and the impacts it has on all Canadians.

The Board looks forward to continued engagement with the public on Canada’s future in space and welcomes input through contact with members of the Board or email to Space Advisory Board

Best regards,
Lucy Stojak, Chair
