Canada powers toward more clean, affordable, and reliable electricity with draft regulations
The recent announcement of the draft Clean Electricity Regulations reiterates the federal government's commitment to working closely with all provinces, territories, and partners on delivering the benefits of a clean grid in a way that ensures reliability and affordability to all Canadians. Following on the heels of the publication of Powering Canada Forward: Building a Clean, Affordable and Reliable Electricity System for Every Region of Canada, the draft regulations are designed to help Canada achieve a net-zero electricity grid by 2035 by offering provinces and territories flexibility and a technology-neutral approach to decide which technological solutions work best for them. The regulations are now open for consultation.

Government of Canada supports clean energy projects in Alberta with over $175 Million
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced funding for 12 projects across Alberta that will support the decarbonization of Canada's electricity systems. Funding for these projects was provided through the Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program, which is investing up to $4.5 billion by 2035 for smart renewable energy and electrical grid modernization projects.
Greening Relocatable Temporary Camps (RTC) through IDEaS program's Pop up city Contest
The Department of National Defence's Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program hosted the final round of its Pop up city Contest on Canadian Forces Base Suffield in Alberta from August 19th to 26th. Three teams of innovators demonstrated their prototype integrated water, waste, and energy management systems for relocatable temporary military camps (RTCs) for troops. Contestants are vying for a $2 million grand prize. With this investment, the IDEaS program is creating a pathway to solutions that could reduce fuel and water consumption as well as reduce solid and liquid waste disposal by up to 33%.
