The Canadian Free Trade Agreement

The Canadian Free Trade Agreement ( CFTA )—an intergovernmental trade agreement signed by Canadian Ministers—aims to reduce and eliminate barriers to the free movement of persons, goods, services and investments within Canada and to establish an open, efficient and stable domestic market. The CFTA replaced the 1995 Agreement on Internal Trade when it came into force on July 1, 2017.

Office of Consumer Affairs

As part of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, the Office of Consumer Affairs ( OCA ) works—with both the public sector and private sector—using information, research and innovative policy instruments to complement and support consumer protection regulation. The OCA also works with its partners on consumer education and awareness to empower the consumer in the Canadian economy.

The OCA serves as Secretariat to the CMC.

Financial Consumer Agency of Canada

The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada ( FCAC ) is a federal government agency working to protect and inform consumers about financial products and services. The FCAC was founded to strengthen oversight of consumer issues and expand consumer education in the financial sector.

Under the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada Act, the FCAC also supervises federally regulated financial institutions to make sure they comply with federal consumer protection measures that apply to them.
