There are two barriers that could be considered to the widespread adoption of virtual care in Saskatchewan:

  • The requirement that (at least in Saskatchewan) the physician must be licensed where the patient resides. This is an issue for legislation
  • The requirements related to be able to bill governments for providing virtual care. This is also an issue for governments to address.

We may have other “barriers” related to ensuring quality of the services provided but as a regulator we will be working our way through these issues.
