Detailed requirements for Textile labelling requirements — Dealer information

Dealer name and mailing address

Every textile label must show the following:

  • your company name and the mailing address (consistent with Canada Post guidelines) where your business is normally conducted.

    or
  • your CA Identification Number.

A CA Identification Number may be used in place of a name and address on the label of textile items. The CA Identification Number is a five-digit identification number preceded by the letters CA (for example, CA00000).

Only the following are eligible for a CA Identification Number:

  • Canadian manufacturers of a textile fibre product
  • Canadian processors of a textile fibre product
  • Canadian finishers of a textile fibre product
  • Canadian engaged in the business of importing or selling any textile fibre product

How to apply for a CA Identification Number:

If you are not eligible for a CA Identification Number, you must include your company name and mailing address on the label.

The dealer identification and the country of origin (when required) do not have to be bilingual.

Reminder:

For custom-made items such as draperies, furniture, or suits, the fibre content and dealer information may be shown on the invoice, bill of sale, or other document rather than on the item itself, as long as properly labelled samples or swatches are available for the consumer to examine prior to purchase.
