| Industrial Sector: Energy | Project Purpose: Demonstration of renewable electric energy using wind turbines at a hydrogen station, and public transport vehicles, farm machinery and a tourist boat running on hydrogen power. |
| Authorized Assistance: $5,137,075 | |
| Project Description and Anticipated Results: This project transforms the vision of the first Canadian ’wind-hydrogen project’ into a reality by generating clean, renewable energy using wind turbines and a hydrogen fuel cell to serve the energy needs of the community. It is based on the collaboration of innovative Canadian organizations working in the fields of wind energy, hydrogen production, fuel cells, storage tanks and engineering. Based in North Cape, PEI, the location of Atlantic Wind Test Site (AWTS), this project will demonstrate the many uses of hydrogen power in real life applications:
Atlantic Canadian expertise will be showcased through the development of a wind-hydrogen control system that links the wind turbines and hydrogen cell station to the provincial electrical grid. This will build on the wind-diesel control systems developed at the AWTS at North Cape. Wind-hydrogen control systems will provide benefits to the community, the province and Canada:
