Investment Canada Act Timelines

This calculator is intended to assist foreign investors to understand when the initial national security review period under the Investment Canada Act ends. When you enter the investment’s certification date, the calculator will estimate the expiry of this 45-day waiting period, taking into account holidays and other non-business days.

Note that an investment’s certification date is the date that a final, complete notification has been received by the Investment Review Division. It is not necessarily the date that an investor submitted the notification form. The Investment Review Division provides the certification date to the non-Canadian in the receipt referred under section 13 of the Investment Canada Act . The receipt is commonly called the “certification letter”.

Lastly, this calculator is for information purposes only. While we have made every effort to ensure that the calculator functions properly, the calculator does not replace the statutory regime, or the Investment Review Division’s administrative practice. Should you have any questions, please contact the Investment Review Division.
