Senior Policy Advisor in International Telecommunications and Internet Policy

What is a typical day in the life of a senior policy advisor in international telecommunications and Internet policy?

International telecommunications and Internet policy is a very active and particularly interesting file. It is very fast-paced and is characterized by technological developments and multiple international challenges related to geopolitical, social, cultural and regulatory topics. A typical day involves collecting and assessing information on key developments affecting this file, ensuring that this information feeds into our preparatory processes leading up to international meetings, treaty and non-treaty binding. These preparatory processes are as thorough and inclusive as possible and involve regular consultations with other government departments, the private sector, civil society, academia and, in many instances, allies and like-minded countries. The main objective is to advance and protect Canadian telecommunication priorities and interests. In the current international environment, this can be a little hectic, but always in a very good way.

Why do you love what you do?

I am part of a wonderful team of colleagues responsible for key international telecommunication files. We have an excellent working environment! I also have the opportunity to travel frequently in my position, which emphasizes my deep appreciation for our country and its public service. I basically love coming to work!
