File a measurement-related complaint

Privacy Notice Statement – Trade Measurement Complaints and Disputes Submitted to Measurement Canada:

The personal information you submit with your complaint is being collected by Measurement Canada pursuant to the Department of Industry Act, the Weights and Measures Act, and the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act. It will be used to investigate your complaint or dispute, and to communicate the results of complaint or dispute investigations to you. There is no disclosure of your personal information to any third parties outside of Measurement Canada. Your submission of a complaint or dispute is voluntary; however, if you choose not to provide your personal information, it will not be possible for Measurement Canada to accept or investigate your complaint or dispute.

The personal information you provide will be held in Personal Information Bank No. ISED PPU 401 – Trade Measurement Complaints and Disputes Submitted to Measurement Canada.

Under the Privacy Act, individuals who provide personal information to government institutions have the right to request access to and correction of that personal information. Requests in this regard may be sent to ISED's Access to Information and Privacy Services Branch at: ic.atip‑aiprp.ic@ised-isde.gc.ca. Individuals also have the right to complain to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada on how their personal information is handled. Further information is available online, at www.priv.gc.ca.

You may file a complaint if you think you've received an inaccurate measurement as part of a purchase. You should always try to resolve the issue before filing a complaint.

Measurement Canada does not:

  • negotiate any compensation
  • usually process anonymous complaints
