Consumer choice in telecommunications and broadcasting

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) will examine the consumer choices in retail telecommunications and broadcasting services with a focus on regulatory policies intended to make wireless markets more dynamic, such as number portability and limits on cancellation fees. The PIAC will also explore the key barriers preventing consumers from easily switching providers, such as difficulty comparing offerings and fear of losing bundling discounts.

Assessing the emergence of "alternative" currencies and legal risk: the consumer's perspective

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) will research the nature and extent of the presence of alternative currencies such as bitcoins in the Canadian retail payments market and identify potential legal risks associated with their use. As a benchmark, the PIAC will also identify current best regulatory practices related to alternative currencies in the United States, European Union and Australia.
