Jean-Philippe Bolduc is a teacher who is committed to arousing curiosity, causing sparks, leaving a mark on the imagination and causing excitement. In our complex world, he hopes to lead his students to thoughtful, critical and ethical awareness.
Teaching approach
Jean-Philippe appreciates the culture of error, as it is by making mistakes that we learn. He therefore stresses the fact that you have to try and take risks to make discoveries. He also promotes gamification, which reduces anxiety and allows his students to learn while having fun.
In the classroom
- Jean-Philippe makes the iPad part of his teaching every day. Students use it for research, writing, calculation, and to organize their digital agenda.
- On the flipped classroom principle, he produces often-humorous videos to encourage grade 7 students to push their exploration and interest in science.
- He builds robotics into his courses with Lego Mindstorm robots and his student then have to teach the robotics concepts they master to younger students through tutorials, challenges, video capsules, games, individual instruction or in groups.
- In learning and evaluation situations, Jean-Philippe gets his students to create their own videos with the iPad Green Screen application and to edit them with iMovie.
Outstanding achievements
- Thanks to the Uni-Vert student committee he leads, Jean-Philippe helps members to raise awareness of eco-responsibility through activities, recycling contests and an environment week.
- He took charge of the Students on the Beamlines project during which the student participants have to develop a large-scale scientific research project. Every year, Jean-Philippe's group has been selected to perform their experiments at the Canadian Light Source in Saskatoon.
- Given his impressive skills and knowledge, he was chosen to lead a workshop held at the Pensionnat in which teachers from various schools shared teaching approaches.
