Preparing students for a digital-based innovation economy, Peter Cudmore is a science teacher whose courses are like video games as students can level up, gain points and progress to the next level.
Cudmore's layered and flipped classroom approach gives students complete control of their learning and creates a stimulating and innovative learning environment. He is a creative and hands-on facilitator who leads students through discovery based activities as they prepare for a digital-based economy.
- Cudmore developed a successful program that has students progressing through four levels as they complete activities and tasks corresponding to various levels of achievement. Students thrive when utilizing this program as they enjoy having control over their work at their own rate, and are only assessed when they feel prepared.
- Cudmore created an interdisciplinary robotics course funded through partnerships with local tech and manufacturing companies like GE Hitachi and Ontario Power Generation. The partners provide both professional mentoring and give students access to tools and training otherwise unavailable to them.
- Working with his robotics team, Cudmore designed and constructed an augmented reality sandbox as a hands-on learning tool for the local primary schools. The innovative device is one of only a few hundred in the world and only one of five in Canadian schools.
