I am writing to express my concern over what is essentially a redressed "FairPlay" being considered.
This had been examined in 2018 and was rejected because there was little need for it, yet a large risk of overreach and abuse if it were implemented. Nothing has changed in that regard from then to now. Profits of the sponsors of FairPlay had largely been steady since 2018 and the years prior, indicating that there is no sudden surge in piracy that has threatened their content to warrant these reconsiderations.
Please leave the internet alone. We do not need more regulation. The overreach by companies cannot be allowed to supersede the rights and freedoms of Canadians.
