I read the consultation for a modern copyright framework document. I only agree that rights holders are not "able to obtain fair remuneration for protected uses of their content" under the current copyright framework. However, as the "Possible Government actions" shows, "safeguarding individual rights and freedoms in an open internet" is an incompatible goal. I believe, and I think rights holders would agree, that none of the proposed actions provide or guarantee fair remuneration under the copyright regime. I have learned, and I think time will prove me right, the Government is technically incapable of enforcing its copyright regime, despite being as Michael Geist said "the most anti-Internet government in Canadian history".

Therefore, I counter the Governnment's proposal and recommend abolishing copyright. That will clearly not be done, as this Government and its document subordinates the individual rights and freedoms of Canadians for money. So do whatever you will, ban websites and eliminate innovation and Great Firewall us off; Canadians will continue to ignore the hideously abused copyright system, and making any of these proposed mistakes will force us to use better technologies you cannot constrain, with the effective result of abolishing copyright. At most, you can destroy the lazy obsolete centralized platforms targeted, and motivate us to do better. In fact, I dare you.
