Subject: Consultation on extending the general term of copyright

To Whom It May Concern:

Please accept the attached document which I prepared in response to the Government of Canada's calls for views on the implications of extending the general term of copyright to life plus 70 years.

I spent my career working with music materials and have always been dedicated to making the richness of Canada`s musical culture widely accessible to all Canadians. The copyright term extension, if put in place without exemptions and considerations for libraries, archives and museums (LAMs), would greatly hinder that ongoing work.

Canadian copyright law has always emphasized the balance between the public interest and the concerns of rights holders. I believe it is essential that this consultation result in a recommendation that retains that balance and supports LAMs in their efforts to preserve and provide access to our shared Canadian heritage.

Thank you for providing me with an opportunity to comment on this important process.

Yours truly,
Richard W. Green
