In 1996, based on research undertaken by Industry Canada and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and consultations with the Canadian Bankers Association (CBA), a series of 1980 SIC industry codes (SIC codes) were developed to be used as indicators for measuring bank lending to knowledge-based industries (KBIs) in Canada.
