Before getting started

To apply for or copy a radio licence, you will be asked to sign in with your Spectrum Management System (SMS) Web Profile. To create a Web Profile, visit the SMS Online registration page.

The Copy licence button allows you to apply for a new licence by copying licence information from an existing licence and modifying where appropriate. To learn more on how to apply for or copy a radio licence, visit the How to apply for a radio licence page.

For Web Profiles with multiple associated licensee accounts, the Select Active Licensee option allows you to select the account under which your applications are submitted.

Developmental Service
To support ongoing innovations, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada provides temporary access to spectrum for research and development purposes, specifically to test new and innovative systems and ideas.

When applying for a licence, you can indicate that your request is for a developmental licence on the “General information” page by selecting “Developmental” in the “Licence category” drop down option.
