Overview of the General Operator Certificate (GOC)
The General Operator Certificate (GOC) is Canada's highest level of radio operator certificate.
It is intended for personnel who operate the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) on vessels that sail in international sea areas. This radio equipment is mandatory on board such vessels, in accordance with Transport Canada's carriage requirements for these vessels and voyages.
Steps to follow to obtain your GOC
To obtain a GOC, you need to take a course and pass an exam administered by an accredited institution.

- For GOC certification, accredited institutions provide both training and examinations.
- The full list of accredited institutions can be found in annex A of the GOC syllabus.
- Once you have completed and passed your official exam, your certificate will be mailed to you.

- An account allows you to request a reprint of your certificate. To create your account, you will need your certificate serial number.
