In accordance with the Cabinet Directive on the Environmental Assessment of Policy, Plan and Program Proposals, a strategic environmental assessment (SEA) was completed for the Automotive Suppliers Innovation Program (ASIP). ASIP was introduced in Budget 2015 to provide $100 million over five years starting in 2015‐2016 to support technology demonstration and prototyping activities of Canadian‐based suppliers developing innovative products and processes for the automotive sector.
The SEA indicated that the ASIP may contribute indirectly to advancing the following goal and target of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) over the longer term:
- Goal 1: Addressing Climate Change; Target 1.1: Climate Change Mitigation: Relative to 2005 emission levels, reduce Canada’s total GHG emissions 17% by 2020.
