Strategic Environmental Assessment on the Strategic Aerospace and Defence Initiative (SADI) contribution to Pratt and Whitney

In accordance with the Cabinet Directive on the Environmental Assessment of Policy, Plan and Program Proposals (2010), a detailed strategic environmental assessment (SEA) was completed for the contribution to Pratt and Whitney Canada (P&WC) under the Strategic Aerospace and Defence Initiative (SADI) of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s Industrial Technologies Office. The SADI contribution will likely have important positive environmental effects as P&WC develops more fuel efficient jet engines that are lighter and quieter, thus contributing positively to meeting some of the goals and targets under the 2013‐2016 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS), including reduced greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution (FSDS goals 1 and 2), sustainable use of natural and biological resources through lightweighting (FSDS goal 5), and protecting Canadians through reduced noise levels from aircraft (FSDS goal 4).
