International intellectual property policy

The Strategic Policy Sector (SPS) has the lead responsibility in managing and coordinating Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada's participation in international initiatives relating to intellectual property in organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization, the World Trade Organization's Council on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), among others. Such participation ensures that Canada can put forward its interests in the development of the international marketplace framework for intellectual property.

SPS is also responsible for assessing, developing and evaluating policy proposals regarding international agreements with intellectual property elements, including free trade agreements.
