Certification mark text
The certification mark, when affixed to the goods, shall indicate to the purchaser that the goods have met the standards set by Canada Pork International (CPI) for its Verified Canadian Pork (VCP) Program. Participants in the VCP Program are required to enter into a royalty-free licensing agreement with CPI. The goods consist of pork or processed pork products. In order for the certification mark to be affixed to the goods, they must be sourced from Canadian producers and processors of hogs, pork and/or pork products approved by CPI as complying with its prescribed standards for the VCP Program with respect to, but not limited to, food safety, animal care/welfare and traceability. These approved Canadian producers and processors comprise the list of 'Approved Canadian Suppliers' maintained and amended from time-to-time by CPI. Approved Canadian Suppliers must comply with the following national systems, practices and standards: (1) the 'Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA)' program administered by the Canadian Pork Council (CPC), which is Canada's on-farm quality and safety assurance system promoting best-management practices for animal care and food safety to ensure the best quality and safest pork in the world; (2) the 'Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs' developed by the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), which are national guidelines for animal care practices for housing, care, transportation and animal husbandry; and (3) the goods are inspected and approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) of the Government of Canada through participating Federally inspected pork processing facilities that maintain the highest standards for freshness, quality and safety based on Canada's Meat Inspection Act under federal law. The applicant imposes requirements on licensees of the certification mark to comply with the Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA) program administered by the Canadian Pork Council (CPC) and the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs developed by the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC). Since the requirements of the aforementioned CQA program and Code are very lengthy, we submit an electronic version of each document in PDF format so that such materials are easily readable and accessible to the public in accordance with the Trademarks Act.
