Publication of RSS-222 (Issue 4) and DBS-01 (Issue 4)
Notice is hereby given that Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has published the following standards:
- Radio Standards Specification RSS-222, Issue 4, “White Space Devices (WSDs)”. This standard sets out the certification requirements for license-exempt radio apparatus operating in the frequency bands 54-72 MHz, 76-88 MHz, 174-216 MHz, 470-608 MHz and 657-663 MHz, known as white space devices (WSDs).
- Database Specifications DBS-01, Issue 4, “White Space Database Specifications”. This specification sets out the technical requirements for the designation of a database capable of identifying available channels for use by white space devices (WSDs) in the frequency bands 54-72 MHz, 76-88 MHz, 174-216 MHz, 470-608 MHz and 657-663 MHz.
These documents were updated to introduce a new class of white space device with less stringent first-adjacent channel unwanted emission limits. Additionally, the operation of mobile WSDs on channels 3 and 4 is now permitted and the requirement for the white space database to be hosted in Canada has been removed. Moreover, the document underwent revisions aimed at enhancing clarity in the language used throughout.
