Blueberry Commons is a housing co-operative and an organic farm located in the small city of Powell River, British Columbia, on traditional Tla'amin territory. As a co-operative project, members strive to keep costs affordable, while building high-quality, energy-efficient housing. They share a vision of building a vibrant community life, living sustainably and fostering local food security.
The co-operative structure allows all members to own their homes while also co-owning and caring for 16 acres of forest, meadow, and farmland. Blueberry Commons engages with the wider community by selling organic produce, hosting events and welcoming students to spend time on the farm.
This project highlights how the co-operative model can promote sustainable housing and a healthy local food system within resilient and engaged communities.
