Horizon Europe is the world's largest research and innovation funding program involving countries around the globe.

As one of the most ambitious funding programs, it gives Canadians access to even more opportunities to elevate their research and innovations through global partnerships.

Through Horizon Europe, Canada's talented research and innovation communities can help develop solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges. From health to climate to social inclusion, this program is fostering opportunities to strengthen the impact of discoveries.

Horizon Europe research

Horizon Europe funds a wide range of research across disciplines, primarily targeting 'cutting-edge research and innovation' within the STM fields and the social sciences.

Did you know? Thirty-five per cent of Horizon Europe funding targets efforts to combat climate change.

It is built on three pillars:

  • Pillar 1: Excellent science – supports advanced research training, breakthrough innovations and research infrastructure.
  • Pillar 2: Global challenges and European industrial competitiveness – includes six thematic clusters, each tackling a specific and broad societal issue and strengthening Europe's industrial competitiveness.
  • Pillar 3: Innovative Europe – supports breakthrough innovations and collaboration between industry, academia and the public sector.
