Helping Canadian businesses adapt, grow and build resilience in a shifting trade landscape

The Government of Canada is strengthening the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) with additional investments to support Canadian businesses affected by trade disruptions, including liquidity supports to manage the pressures related to tariffs. This funding will help businesses improve productivity, diversify markets, and strengthen supply chains and trade resilience. Canada’s regional development agencies will share more information on additional funding in their regions as details become available.

The Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), delivered by Canada's regional development agencies (RDAs), is part of the Government of Canada's strategy to defend Canadian jobs, industries and supply chains. It is part of a coordinated effort to protect Canadian businesses and workers from the impacts of tariffs.

The RTRI provides $3.45 billion over 4 years to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) impacted by tariffs to help them adapt to changing market conditions, strengthen their competitiveness, diversify into new markets, and build greater trade resilience with more flexibility to address liquidity pressures. It equips SMEs, and the organizations that support them, to seize new opportunities, adapt to global trade disruptions and boost domestic trade. These investments will contribute to long-term economic resilience in the face of continued global uncertainty.

The RTRI includes targeted support for SME projects in the Canadian steel sector. This focused investment will enable small and medium-sized steel businesses to adapt to tariffs, stabilize domestic supply chains and boost productivity.
