Propane metering

Course description

This 3-day course provides students with the necessary knowledge to examine propane metering systems using gravimetric and vapour displacement proving methods. Topics will include the applicable sections of the Weights and Measures Act and Regulations, bulletins and test procedures.

A written exam will be administered at a Measurement Canada office on the last day of the course. Participants not receiving the required 70% passing mark may re-write the exam 30 days after the date of their unsuccessful attempt at a cost of $125.27.

In addition, the successful completion of a practical exam is required prior to being granted authority to examine propane meters as a recognized technician.

Pre-requisite course

Bulk/retail petroleum products

Have taken the combined bulk and retail exam version (dispensers, high-speed dispensers, vehicle-mounted meters and rack meters). 

Expectations

Participants are expected to review the course material, which will be provided two weeks prior to the start of the course. Participants must arrive on time, respect the schedule outlined by the instructors and are expected to participate in classroom discussions. Disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.

Measurement Canada is not responsible for any applicable travel costs.

What to bring

Participants must bring:

  • government issued identification;
  • course registration confirmation letter;
  • course material;
  • pen(s) and calculator (smartphones are prohibited during exams).

Personal protective equipment, such as steel-toe boots, may also be required for practical demonstrations.
