Accreditation, registration and technical training

Organizations that want to inspect and certify measuring devices must be authorized by Measurement Canada through the accreditation program or the registration program.

Accreditation

This program authorizes organizations to inspect and certify devices pursuant to the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act and the Weights and Measures Act. To be authorized under the accreditation program, organizations must implement and maintain a quality management system. Additional Measurement Canada requirements must also be met. The scope of the program is not limited by the trade sectors.

Registration

This program authorizes organizations to examine and certify devices pursuant to the Weights and Measures Act. The registration program does not require a quality management system but its scope is limited to the examinations of measurement equipment used in the trade sectors listed in section 1.3 of the Terms and Conditions. Additional Measurement Canada requirements must also be met.
