Temporary dispensation program for electric vehicle supply equipment

Following last summer's consultation with stakeholders, Measurement Canada has put in place a temporary dispensation program to address the continued use and oversight of unapproved electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) already deployed in the Canadian marketplace.

Temporary dispensation for level 1 and level 2 electric vehicle supply equipment (modified on September 22, 2023)

A permission granted to owners of level 1 and level 2 EVSE that are used in commercial applications and already deployed in the Canadian marketplace to continue to use those meters for the purpose of obtaining the basis of a charge for electricity, subject to conditions which will help ensure that such charges are based on accurate measurement.

Temporary dispensation for level 1 and level 2 electric vehicle supply equipment used in non-commercial applications

A permission granted to owners of level 1 and level 2 EVSE that are used in non‑commercial applications and already deployed in the Canadian marketplace, to continue to use those meters for the purpose of obtaining the basis of a charge for electricity subject to conditions which will help ensure that such charges are based on accurate measurement.

Temporary dispensation for level 3+ electric vehicle supply equipment

A permission granted to owners of level 3+ EVSE already deployed in the Canadian marketplace to continue to use those meters for the purpose of obtaining the basis of a charge for electricity, subject to conditions which will help ensure that such charges are based on accurate measurement.
