Summary

This project researches documentation and analyses certain tendencies such as restructuring and deregulation in both the British and US electricity industries, and discusses the advantages, impacts and costs of these options in terms of the Canadian market . The research was conducted based on five new marketplace trends: 1) inversed factorization, 2) dispersed energy resources (distributed production), 3) regrouped energy purchasing (energy pool), 4) fuel cells, and 5) pre-payment meters. The authors come to several conclusions, including: the benefits of fuel cells over fossil fuels, the benefits of pre-payment meters for companies as they allow for real-time pricing, and the disadvantages of creating distributed production in Canada due to the Canadian energy sector frame work.
