Summary

The Consumers' Response to Education and Outreach Programs around Climate Change and Energy Efficiency project emerged out of recommendations that came from two recent papers prepared for the Consumers Council of Canada: Strategic Options for Building Capacity in Consumer Groups to Mobilize Consumers on Climate Change, and Consumers Willingness to Pay for Climate Change. These reports identified the need for the Consumers Council of Canada to examine how and why consumers respond to education and outreach programs around climate change and energy efficiency. To help answer this question, The Summerhill Group, working on behalf of the Consumers Council of Canada (CCC), developed a twenty question survey linked to The Clean Air Foundation's Keep Cool room air conditioner exchange program. Program locations included 37 Greenwin apartment buildings spread throughout the city of Toronto and 5 separate Eco-Day events. The survey was designed to understand: Why participants and non-participants chose to participate or to not participate in Clean Air Foundation's Keep Cool program, with a special focus on tenants. The consumer experience with respect to the Clean Air Foundation's Keep Cool Program. What future public engagement programs would be of interest to consumers, concerning energy efficiency.
