Summary

The purchase of a house is one of the largest investments in a person’s life. To ensure the success of this process, the individual must be well informed, understand what is involved and be properly advised. The Shawinigan Consumer Aid Services (SAC) team wanted to make a more in-depth analysis of perceptions of real estate brokers. In trying to protect consumers, the SAC seeks to establish the conditions necessary to protect them during the purchase of a house. Aware of the fact that real estate agents and brokers are mandated to protect the rights and interests of sellers, SAC regards the protection of real estate buyers as its primary concern. The analysis was therefore carried out with an emphasis on the rights and interests of the buyer, his or her needs and the role of agents and brokers in terms of these clients. The SAC wanted to determine which professions are more likely to ensure greater protection for the purchaser. The SAC team tried to check how these professionals were supported in practicing their profession. In addition, aware that a five-year review of the Real Estate Brokerage Act is coming up shortly, the SAC decided to take advantage of this study to lay the groundwork for a submission to the Parliamentary commission related to this review.
