In Option Consommateurs research, they studied the means available to Canadians to remove items from the Web and what can be done to better protect them. The permanence of the information stored online coupled with the instant access made possible by search engines give rise to several questions.What are the practices of the major search engines in Canada? What is the situation in the European Union and the United States? What is the impact on consumers? What paid services are available to Canadian consumers who want to remove such unwanted information? How do these services compare to the right to be forgotten? What are the rights of Canadians affected by harmful information on the Web? Should we be able to remove some of the information from the Web? How can consumers be better protected?
