Below is a list of some of the information you will be asked to provide during the data entry. This list is not exhaustive and is provided as a guide.
Note: We recommend that you save your work often to avoid any loss of information.
All Licence Application Types
General Information
- Application number – This is auto generated and is also your authorization/licence number.
- Your application reference identifier (name or number) – Label for you to identify this request. Will not be displayed on your licence, but will be displayed in the Spectrum Management System (SMS).
- This field allows for a maximum of 63 characters. Special characters count for two characters (for example, é, è, etc.).
- Group identifier (identifier for a group of licences in a network) – Field available for you to use your label to identify the licence.
- Licence category:
- “Non developmental” typical licence (default)
- “Developmental” if looking for a developmental licence
- In-service date – Date that you would like to start operations.
- Term of licence:
- “Renewable” for a licence that will used for 12 months or more
- “Temporary” for a licence that is needed for 11 months or less
Click Next to continue or click Summary to see a summary of the information in your application. Click on the Edit button to view or modify the information in the section that interests you.
Account Information
- Account number – Automatically selected because the application is submitted through your Web Profile.
- Licence holder – Legal name of the licence holder.
- Payment contact – Who should receive correspondence regarding invoices. If there is a payment contact associated to your account, the name will be displayed here .
- Administrative contact – Who should be contacted for general information about the licence. By default, this admin contact will be the one who created the Web Profile.
- Technical contact – Who should be contacted for technical information about the licence. If a technical contact is associated to your account, it will be displayed here.
Note: To add a technical contact to your profile, you need to call Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) after the Web Profile creation.

Covering Letter
- System description – Description of the system to be licensed.
- Nature of service – General description of the licence holder (e.g. police services, construction, etc.)
- Is an interim authority requested? – Default is No.
- Yes – The licence will be authorized before the response from international coordination, if needed. The licensee assumes the risk for any coordination refusal.
- No – ISED will issue the licence when positive international coordination response is received.
- Specific system requirements – Describe your request. Include all pertinent information to support your request during ISED’s review. Include an attachment if needed (go back to the summary to do this, or wait for the system to ask you to do so at the end of the data entry process).
