Documents

You will need to prepare the following documents and include them with your application to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) for a broadcasting certificate:

  • an engineering brief prepared by a registered professional engineer (required for most broadcasting submissions, except in specific circumstances with some low-power and auxiliary transmitters, where this requirement can be waived)
  • contour coverage maps
  • azimuth and elevation antenna patterns in a “.pat” format as per annex E of BPR-1 — General Rules (not required for AM)
  • comments on compatibility when the requirement for an engineering brief is being waived
  • the ISED-ISDE2430: Radiocommunication and Broadcasting Antenna Systems Attestation form (can also be filled out online with the submission)
  • a letter of intent regarding the antenna system (when applicable)
  • a copy of short-space notifications (when applicable)

Requirements

Our Broadcasting Procedures and Rules (BPR) provide information for filing an application for a broadcasting certificate and specify the technical standards and requirements.

For low-power FM and DTV applications, we may, in specific circumstances, waive our requirement that technical submissions be prepared by broadcasting engineering consultants, provided that qualified technical staff prepare and sign the submission.

Consult the relevant BPR from the following list for the information required to prepare the documentation for your application:
