Effective Friday, , Canada Post workers are on strike. This impacts your ability, as well as CIPO's, to send and receive mail and parcels.
However, CIPO has a number of other ways to receive correspondence. Please view the alternative options available, including those for filing, on the Correspondence Procedures page.
As such, we encourage our trademark clients to use the Trademark Document Retrieval Service to access all outgoing correspondence from our office. We also encourage our patent clients to use MyCIPO Patents whenever possible for their patent processing needs. You can visit the Next Generation Patents (NGP) page for more information. Additionally, we encourage the use of electronic correspondence.
Clients should note that the current legislative and regulatory framework does not allow CIPO the flexibility to extend certain deadlines in the event of a postal strike. It is the client's responsibility to ensure due dates for correspondence are met, regardless of a disruption in the postal service of Canada Post (including registered mail and Xpresspost).
Additionally, please be informed that if your correspondence to our office is already in transit, there is no need to submit a duplicate request.
We are monitoring the strike's implications for outgoing mail. If the situation risks causing severe delays, alternative means will be considered, such as couriers, if necessary.
