Up to half of all healthcare in Canada involves wounds. Lingering wounds come as a result of patients having difficulty accessing consultations and treatments. Such wounds often become infected, which drives up hospitalization rates and can lead to amputations and deaths. Swift Medical Inc.—and its six project partners—developed an advanced smartphone imaging platform that enables patients to take photographs of their wounds and share them with their healthcare providers. Equipped with these three-dimensional, medical-grade clinical images, healthcare professionals can assess wounds accurately and recommend effective treatments. The results: lower costs for wound care and, most important, better care and swifter recoveries for patients.
