National Contact Points roles and responsibilities

Below is some general information on the roles and responsibilities of Canada's National Contact Points (NCPs) for Horizon Europe.

NCPs provide guidance, information and assistance on Canadian participation in Horizon Europe. Chosen by national authorities, NCPs have in-depth knowledge of the research community in their field within their country. They understand the research, and they know the researchers, institutions, and national funding agencies and programs. NCPs inform communities about potential relevant calls for proposals. They use their NCP networks in other countries to help researchers and innovators develop international partnerships. NCPs are also responsible for reviewing drafts of upcoming Horizon Europe Work Programmes. As experts in their field, NCPs offer suggestions to tailor the draft calls' to today's most pressing global challenges.

NCPs are responsible for supporting Horizon Europe participants in many ways, such as:

Informing and raising awareness

  • Providing documentation on Horizon Europe
  • Raising awareness among national stakeholders
  • Responding to requests from stakeholders
  • Notifying interested Canadian entities about Horizon Europe and helping them find the right programme calls
  • Notifying national/regional stakeholders of upcoming programme calls

Partner search, guidance, and training

  • Helping participants find potential partners
  • Explaining the types of calls for proposals
  • Informing stakeholders of upcoming courses and training sessions
  • Strengthening cooperation between international NCPs
