Measurement Canada has established this policy for courses offered through the national technical training program (NTTP).
Registration
- NTTP courses have limited seating due to trainer requirements or classroom space. As a result, registration for courses is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The authorized service provider (ASP) management representative must register candidates online, at least 30 calendar days before the published course start date. Late registrations will not be accepted. A confirmation of online registration and a payment confirmation will be sent to the management representative automatically.
- Payment must be provided at the time of course registration. Measurement Canada will only accept payment by major credit card. A confirmation of payment and registration will be sent to the contact person for payment once the payment has been processed. No partial payments will be accepted.
- Once a candidate has registered for a technical training course, Measurement Canada will advise the candidate in writing, at least 21 calendar days before the scheduled course start date, of the following, as applicable:
- their acceptance into the course;
- any cancellation or rescheduling of the course;
- any change of the course location.
- It is the candidate's responsibility to promptly create an account on the ISED Learning Platform in order to access the printable materials and, as applicable, the online self-study portion of certain courses. No reminder will be sent regarding account creation. If you encounter technical difficulties, it is your responsibility to contact mc-nttp-mcpnft@ised-isde.gc.ca. Please note that our service hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday (Eastern Time).
Accessibility of training materials
Candidates whose course registration has been confirmed will receive, 21 calendar days prior to the course start date, a link to the course on the ISED Learning Platform. This link provides all the printable materials in a downloadable folder. If a candidate attends the course without their printed materials, no documents will be provided onsite; they will have to complete the training without these materials.
Requirements for courses containing self-study
For courses that include an online self-study portion, namely:
- Bulk and Retail petroleum products
- NAWDS
- Thermal Energy
The following conditions apply:
- Once the copy of the materials is provided via the ISED Learning Platform, 21 calendar days before the course start date, candidates are required to:
- Complete the online self-study portion between the date the course link is provided and no later than the Thursday before the classroom sessions begin;
- Obtain a passing grade on the final online quiz;
- Maintain the skills acquired
No reminder will be sent; it is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that training is completed within the prescribed timelines. Once the online self-study portion is completed, both the candidate and Measurement Canada representatives will be automatically informed of their result, whether it is a pass, fail, or non-completion of the online self-study portion. The course will become inaccessible after the imposed deadline.
The candidate's business management representative will receive, by email, preceding the in-person portion, a notification indicating whether the candidate has passed, failed, or not completed the required self-study prerequisite. In the event of failure or non-completion, the candidate will not be admitted to the classroom session, and the company will not be eligible for a refund.
New course dates will be scheduled based on demand and trainer availability. ASPs are encouraged to contact their designated Measurement Canada representative should they be seeking a particular course.
Substitution
- The ASP's management representative may designate a substitute participant in an NTTP course up to 21 calendar days prior to the start of the course. The designated substitute must meet all prerequisites and their eligibility must be confirmed by Measurement Canada.
- The ASP's management representative must email their designated Measurement Canada contact and provide the name of the original participant as well as the name and contact information of the designated substitute.
Cancellation
- The ASP's management representative must email their designated Measurement Canada contact stating their decision to cancel the candidate's registration. This must occur at least 14 calendar days prior to the course start date in order to receive a refund. No refunds or partial refunds will be provided to participants who start to attend a course but do not complete it.
- Cancellations made within 14 calendar days of the course start date that are the result of an emergency situation may be considered for a refund.
- Participants must complete the entire course to be eligible for the final exam. As no partial courses are delivered, a participant who is absent from a portion of the course or withdraws partway through the course will have to start it over.
Note: This policy takes into account trainer availability and delivery expenses incurred for NTTP courses, which cannot be recovered in the event of late cancellations.
Postponement, location change or cancellation of a course by Measurement Canada
- Measurement Canada reserves the right to reschedule or cancel the course or change its location if there is a low level of interest or if any circumstances or events beyond its control prevent it from offering the course.
- Measurement Canada will advise all candidates in writing at least 21 calendar days before the scheduled course start date of any cancellation or rescheduling of the course or change of the course location.
- Candidates wishing to attend the course on the new date or at the new location must advise their designated Measurement Canada contact by email of their desire to do so within five calendar days of receiving Measurement Canada's notice. If no such email is sent, Measurement Canada will automatically issue a refund.
- Measurement Canada will not be held liable for any costs incurred by the candidate or organization due to postponement, location change or course cancellation other than the course registration fees, which will be refunded.
