Summary

This study attempts to answer how companies can make their privacy policies meaningful through good business practices. The author uses literature, privacy policy experts, and companies with independent privacy policies to determine the most important aspects of implementing a privacy policy. These results were compiled into six research areas: 1) clear corporate commitment to privacy, 2) thorough operational review, 3) efforts to raise employee awareness, 4) good communication with customers, 5) effective complaints process, and 6) regular compliance audits. It concludes that challenge companies will face is complying with policies after their implementation, and independent audits of this compliance will be required in the future.
