Summary

This APA study is the most in-depth investigation of auto repairs available to the Canadian public to date. The "Mousetrap" test vehicle used in this study is specially prepared and pre-tested with one simple, easy to locate, and quickly correctable problem, aimed at revealing honesty and competence in the repair shops. All parts related to the repair are replaced with brand new manufacturer components or verified for quality before each study. The report concludes that large chains should do more to ensure uniform quality and honesty, and recommends that consumers should not rely on advertised specials or national brands to choose their shops, and should try not to wait until the last minute for a repair.
